Educational Directories
Web directories are basically lists of sites. Each item in the list "points" you to the location of that resource on the Web. These directories either catalog Web pages by subject or serve as a database searchable by keywords. While there are countless directories online, here are some of the more useful ones pertaining to education:

Education World Search Engine. Provides a directory and search engine for educational subjects in more than 20,000 sites. Invaluable database of links for teachers and homeschoolers. Education World also catalogs topics such as special education, college prep, parent's resources, teacher's materials, and regional information.

General Educational Resources
Some of these sites are maintained in conjunction with a particular company or organization. Others are strictly volunteer efforts.

Research-It. Research-It should be your first stop when you need to access the who, what, when, where, why, and how of just about anything.
Ask An Expert. Connects you to over 300 authorities in a wide variety of subjects including math, science, art, English grammar, fitness, plants, animals, and woodworking. Simply e-mail your question to the expert and wait for a reply. You'll also find archives of commonly asked questions.
My Virtual Reference Desk. Puts many common reference works at your fingertips. Search through mainstays such as Webster's Dictionary, Roget's Thesaurus, and Bartlett's Familiar Quotations. The Virtual Reference Desk, from the University of North Carolina, also features telephone and ZIP code lookups, weather maps, a number of foreign language lexicons, and pointers to major online newspapers including USA Today and the Washington Post.
Knowledge Adventure. Features games and materials geared for kids ranging from toddlers to second graders with specific activities for each age group. A science lab, movie theater, and searchable online encyclopedia round out this site, designed in part to promote educational software.
1upinfo.com. Browse articles in all areas of topics within Earth & Environment, History, Literature & Arts, Health & Medicine, People, Philosophy & Religion, Places, Plants & Animals, Science & Technology, Social Science, Law, Sports, Everyday Life, and more.
Vocab Test.com. Offers the eager student ways to expand their vocabulary.

Christian Educational Sites
The Internet also has a great deal of Christian material available, some with impressive educational resources.

Kids' Quest. Offers a good mix of entertainment and education. Players navigate through mazes, solve crossword puzzles, find hidden animals in pictures, and print out Bible coloring books. A variety of sound and video clips are planted throughout the site and are readily downloadable. Kids' Quest also presents the gospel to children and provides a question-and-answer section geared toward youth.
Christian Classics Ethereal Library. Offers an online library of classic public domain works that can either be read online or downloaded to your computer--not just access to a computerized card catalog. CCEL includes writings from Augustine, Bunyan, Milton, Spurgeon, Tozer, and others--all available for free.

Oh, Those S.A.T.s!

College Scholarships, Colleges, and Online Degrees is an all purpose college and scholarship information site which includes links to internet scholarship search data bases, links to college websites and online applications, college admissions office email addresses and (mostly toll free) phone numbers.

College Parents of America - help for parents struggling to get a kid through college.

College Xpress offers a unique combination of time-saving interactive tools to help students and parents find a college, learn about financial aid, compare student loans, and research thousands of scholarship opportunities.

Student Loan Marketing Association, better known as Sallie Mae, services one in three federal student loans and is the nation's largest source of funding and servicing support for education loans. Its web site includes interactive calculators for estimating your expected family contribution, monthly loan payments or monthly savings goals.

Get Recruited offers students a chance to be recruited by, and perhaps be offered scholarships to attend, colleges, universities and graduate schools throughout the United States. This service is free.

Scholarship Help and Advice Center explains how college funding works, the types of scholarships available, how to find them and how to apply for them.
